01 — Studio
The slowest room
in the house
A stair is the only room you meet in motion. You read it with your feet — the pitch of the flight, the give of a tread, the place a handrail arrives exactly where a hand goes looking for it.
So we build slowly and in one piece. Survey, formwork, pour, set — four verbs, one crew, no subcontracted middle. The stair leaves the shop the day it becomes a stair.
02 — Work
Three ways up
The straight run
One flight, one direction, nothing to translate. The honest stair — and the hardest to make feel effortless.
Concrete · Oak tread № 02The quarter landing
A turn taken mid-flight, on a landing wide enough to pause on. The house keeps its secrets one half-storey at a time.
Steel spine · Oak № 03The winder set
Space borrowed from the turn itself — tapered treads that buy a staircase room the plan never allocated.
Concrete · Steel rail03 — Process
Four verbs, one crew
Survey
Laser levels and plaster casts on site. Every rise and going measured twice, argued about once.
Formwork
The stair built upside-down in the shop — the form is the mould the concrete remembers.
Pour & join
One continuous pour, treads ground flat in place, timber and steel fitted wet.
Set
Craned in, seated on its bearing plates, handrail warmed and waxed the same afternoon.
04 — The grammar
Nine devices,
doing their jobs
Blur-on-scroll navbar
The fixed bar gains a blurred plate after twenty-four pixels of scroll.
Half-bleed motion
Motion offset ~30% right and clipped by the hero — generated on a 2D canvas, no video files.
One-sided scrim
A left-hand gradient behind the type only; the motion stays clean to the right of it.
Staircase indent
Each headline line steps further right; the last line takes the accent.
Chamfered CTA
A cut-corner button, flush-left with the headline’s deepest indent.
Staggered fade-up
Entrance offsets per element, exponential ease, played once.
The 100vh contract
Headline and CTA both live above the fold at 700px of viewport height.
Gradient section seams
Sections share a fade instead of a hard edge, so the scroll reads as one surface.
Single accent role
One custom property, one job — mark the intended path. Repainting the site is one instruction.
Method extracted from a recorded Claude Design session — prompt discipline, not tooling. This page is the method, executed and annotated.
05 — Commission
Ready when
you are.
Bring the floor plan and the question. The first survey costs a morning and ends with a pencil line where the stair will go.
